Welcome to another season of Football. Buderim Wanderers again proved itself to be the best football club on the Sunshine Coast winning many premierships and team awards in 2009.
One of the reasons for the club being so strong is the commitment and dedication of so many volunteers who have a genuine interest in developing our children. These volunteers come to the club with a wealth of experience in our chosen sport.
This season we have further developed the managing roles in the Small Sided Football/Rooball sections of the club and we thank these people for accepting these roles. These roles are as follows:
- SSF Coordinator - Paul Brown
- Age Group Manager Under 10 - Dave Baldock
- Age Group Manager Under 9 - T.B.A
- Age Group Manager Under 8 - Jim Arnott
- Age Group Manager Under 7 - Peter Rule
- Age Group Manager Under 6 - T.B.A
- SSF/Rooball Club Patron - Noel Crawford
At our last coaches meeting the club decided to further develop the policy on "The Allocation of New Players to Existing Teams". This allowed all coaches to be involved so that there is a fairer distribution of players across the teams.
Another area we have been looking at is the further development of our coaching programs. This will help the club develop better coaches and make sure all the coaches are coaching what is necessary for the age group they are looking after.
Under 6 & 7
Buderim Wanderers is hubbed with Kawana, Sunshine Coast Grammar and Matthew Flinders Football Clubs. Games are played on a Saturday and rotated around the grounds of the four clubs. Once teams are finalised a draw will be posted on the website for your reference. The first game is on Saturday 20TH March.
Under 8, 9 & 10
These three age groups play against other clubs in the Sunshine Coast football zone.
Sunshine Coast Football make up the draw and post it on their website http://www.sunshinecoastfootball.com.au/
The first game is on Saturday 20th March.
HELPFUL HINTS for PARENTS
- Regularly check our website www.bwfc.com.au for the latest updates, news, wet weather conditions and times of play and field allocations.
- Some people use this website as their home page on their computer at home.
- Always keep the lines of communications open. Each team will have a coach and manager. It seems that emailing and texting are easy ways of doing this.
- For insurance purposes all players must wear shin pads and appropriate footwear. Football boots recommended.
- Always bring a water bottle and wear sun cream.
- Your coach will let you know the training times and the field that the team will be training on.
- Each team needs to nominate a manager.
GUIDELINES for PARENTS
- When players agree to play for a team at an age level the player owes primary allegiance to that team. They must always initially fulfil their obligations to their allotted team. Playing for other teams may only be done when the primary commitments have been met with their main team.
- Parents accept that the score of the game is secondary. The primary focus is on teaching young players to play with a style that focuses on ball mastery and ball possession. Players should never be encouraged to boot the ball out of play or long in a meaningless way and instead should focus on developing ball skills and ball mastery.
- Coaches are in charge of the players from the period 15 minutes before the game to a period 10 minutes after its completion. Parents are to respect this and not interfere with the coaches' duties or offer instructions to the players.
- Parents should not coach from the sidelines
- Parents should not criticise players, coaches or game officials.
- Players should have lots of fluids to drink during the game and should have eaten something solid about one hour before playing.
- BWFC is committed to improve the skills and football abilities of every player and does not regard the score of the game as the primary focus.
- Children just want to have fun. Putting them under pressure to perform and win is not in the nature of young children.
- Do not criticise your child if they make a mistake. The coach will handle this in a positive and constructive way.
- Always look for and talk about the positive things that your child did in the game. This is a great way of building their self esteem.
